Senior Design Project at Columbia College Chicago. This project takes in every aspect of my experiences at Columbia, including my design studio classes, architectural history, art criticism, and studies of social and spatial organization. The embodiment of my studies of Chicago Building Codes and ADA Accessibility were put to use in this space, as well as the needs of students and faculty through a synthesized aesthetic of modernist buildings and postmodernist teachings. Using Piet Mondrian as a starting point conceptually and studying modernist artwork and philosophies, the school was designed via modular units to allow for impromptu rearrangement of furniture and classes for student critiques, galleries, and study areas. Spontaneous bursts of creativity are encouraged through use of sketchpad benches and dry erase marker treated materials. Every detail of this project in any scale reflects the overall look of the building relates to the overall concept.
